DeJaFrut meaning “from Jamaican fruit” is a family-owned business founded in January 2013 by twin sisters Marie and Maria Wilson. As native New Yorkers and the offspring of Jamaican parents, we realized there was no all-natural fruit-based frozen dessert available on the island. With the abundance of fruits available and the perpetual tropical climate, we were determined to introduce a frozen sorbet that provided a nutritious and delicious alternative to ice cream.
We manufacture and sell a tropical spin on Italian ice with an original blend of ingredients not previously available on the market. We have positioned our single-serving sorbet as a healthier, lower calorie, grab-and-go snack item in retail markets where consumers are faced with limited options beyond ice cream.
In February 2017, Marie suddenly and unexpectedly passed away. Through the support of family and faith, Maria has decided to carry on and see their dream to its “fruition”. Maria has developed new partnerships to assist with the manufacture, sale and distribution of DeJaFrut across the island. Through these partnerships, she is determined to make DeJaFrut reach its full potential as the best selling frozen novelty in Jamaica!
